Obituary of Kathryn (Kath) HUTCHINSON (nee Vaines)

June 24, 1954 - Barnsley, Yorkshire
July 26, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Kath Hutchinson, beloved wife of Philip (Phil) Hutchinson of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully at home on July 26, 2020 at the age of 66 years, surrounded by her family. 

Kath was born in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England and attended Hoyland Kirk Balk school. Along with her family, she emigrated to Canada in 1982 making Calgary her home.

Kath worked as a seamstress, and had a passion for sewing.  She enjoyed a variety of sewing projects, making clothing, drapes and anything else she could create with material. She had an endless loyalty to her family and especially loved the time she spent with her grandchildren who called her Mama, never missing a game or event, always cheering from the sidelines or in the stands.  Her love and deep devotion for her husband, children and grandchildren was boundless. She was particularly proud of her children for accomplishing university degrees and various sporting and academic accomplishments.

It was important to Kath to ensure that her family made many beautiful memories and took many wonderful trips together. Her most memorable vacation was taking her grandchildren to see the country of her birth, England, last year.

Besides her loving husband, Phil, Kath is survived by her beloved son Andrew Hutchinson, devoted daughter Ruth (Robert) Morrison and five amazing grandchildren, Sophia, Blake, Thomas, Riley and Carter. She is also survived by her mother, Dorothy, four sisters and three brothers. She was predeceased by her father, Thomas.

Kath’s family are heartbroken by the loss of such an amazing, strong and courageous woman who loved her family unconditionally and to them a world without her is unimaginable - today, tomorrow and forever.

Kath’s family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, in particular Dr. Vanessa Krause and the Day Care chemotherapy unit nurses. Special heartfelt thanks to Dr. Vicky Penney and the Palliative Care nurses, Helen, Tobi, and Sarah, for their deep care and compassion.
