Obituary of Walter POST

July 13, 1932 – Ochtrup, Germany February 28, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta Walter Post, beloved husband of Elfriede Post of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the age of 85 years. Walter was born in Ochtrup, Germany on July 13, 1932 to the late Heinrich and Gertrud Post. As a young boy, he excelled both in school and on the soccer field. Walter married the love of his life, Elfriede “Ellie”, on April 4, 1956. Their wedding reception was held at the family farm where Walter was raised with his six siblings. Soon after getting married, Walter and Elfriede immigrated to Canada where they built a beautiful life together: raising three boys, establishing a successful business, and becoming active members in their church community. Walter came to Canada with a dream of a better life. His hard work and savvy business sense allowed him to establish Alpine Glass from the ground up and eventually pass this thriving business onto his sons. Walter was a man of great faith. He expressed his love for God with his beautiful voice as a member of the choir at St. Gerard Catholic Church for twenty-five years. After retiring early at the age of 53, Walter spent his later years enjoying the things he loved most in life: golf, Maui, and time with his family. Walter will always be remembered for his admirable work ethic, dedication to his family and business, and memorable sayings. He was a true gentleman with a kind heart and a no-nonsense approach. He took great pride in everything he did, from how he conducted business to how he dressed. Walter/Dad/Opa, you were a truly good man and will forever be missed! Besides his loving wife Elfriede of sixty-two years, Walter will fondly be remembered by his three sons and two daughters-in-law, Rob and Donna, Norman and Carolin, and Christopher, and his younger sister Martha. He also leaves behind his eight adoring grandchildren, Janet (Matt), Kelly (Dylan), Scott (Rachel), Joey, Rebecca, Justin, Emily and Johanna; and his four great-grandchildren, Ayla, Jacob, Bennett and Nissa. Walter was predeceased by his parents and five older siblings. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow immediately after the Funeral Mass at St. Gerard’s Flanagan Hall.
