Obituary of Hazel “Laverne” BAISLEY

January 2, 1933 – Calgary, Alberta
August 7, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Our hearts are broken by the unexpected passing of our dear mom, grandma, great grandma, sister and auntie.  Laverne Baisley passed away on Friday, August 7, 2020 at the good age of 87 with her daughter and son-in-law at her side.

Laverne was a longtime and very active member of the Calgary Oil Wives Club, serving in a number of volunteer positions including Treasurer.  Laverne enjoyed many fun and exciting activities with this group and made many life-long cherished friends.

Laverne was also a long time member of the Calgary Winter Club, enjoying many hours of tennis, curling and bridge with her friends and late husband Doug.  She was a member of the Riverside Golf Course in Fairmont, BC. Laverne and Doug enjoyed many winters of golfing and tennis in Palm Desert, California.  In Palm Desert, Calgary, and Fairmont they were blessed with wonderful friends who they shared many fun times with.  They were also known to get into their fair share of mischief! Laverne loved entertaining friends and family, especially at their beautiful cabins at Sylvan Lake and Fairmont.

Laverne is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Rob Marich; three wonderful grandchildren, Aaron, Jaclyn (David), and Breanna (James); precious great-grandson Jenson; her dear brother Ron Middleton, and many precious nieces and nephews.  We will all miss her dearly! Laverne was predeceased by her loving husband of fifty-eight years, Doug in 2014.  She has missed him dearly every day since then.  Laverne was also predeceased by her dear son Doran in 1978.

A celebration of Laverne’s life will be held at a later date.  If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Boys and Girls Club of Calgary, a very special organization that was near and dear to both Laverne and Doug: 731 – 13 Avenue NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 1C8, Telephone: (403) 276-9981, https://www.boysandgirlsclubsofcalgary.ca/donate/. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Laverne’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

Very special thanks to all of the angel caregivers and support team in Units 32 and 71 and the ER at the Foothills Medical Centre.  Special thanks as well to the very caring nurses and support team at the Newport Harbour Care Centre.
