Condolences
Kent and Peter, My sorrow at the loss of your father. My father, Bill Laidlaw, passed away 2nd of March this year, so I recognize the pain. Please take care. Be Well. Michael Laidlaw
Tony Fisher, what an incredible guy! Like so many of our friends, our time with Tony and Susan usually revolved about being in the outdoors in an adventure that typically played out on the water, followed be a campfire, good food and wine. One our most memorable trips was a remote canoe trip well north of the Arctic Circle on the Mara Burnside river which dumps out into Bathurst Inlet. We spent two weeks negotiating incredible rapids, superb hikes, close encounters with muskox, wolves and a massive wolverine and finally the most challenging portage of our lives and a paddle to the Arctic Ocean to get picked up by our float plane.
Tony and his paddling posse of whitewater paddlers enjoyed (survived) some incredible whitewater rivers and while it was the river god’s choosing, someone was typically in for a long cold swim. But this always followed at the end of the day with many laughs at a warm campfire and a beverage or two reminiscing the day’s events and past trips.
Tony had a great sense of humor, a real interest in people and their stories, a calm voice and a twinkle in his eye. Tony helped make so many memories, he will be surely missed.

We have known Tony for more than 30 years. Tony was direct in approach and always attentive and thoughtful in conversation. He made you feel that you were worthy of his attention and he expressed genuine interest in what you said. He was strong in conviction and was the kind of person who had your back.
He had an adventurous spirit and embraced life. He never settled for less than that which he thought he was capable. On occasion, he may have overestimated his ability, but never his capability or capacity to endure.
Not many people are of Tony physical stature or have his emotional balance.
Not many people have Tony’s determination.
Not many of us are able to live life with the fullness that Tony did; and he did so to the very end.
We are proud to have him had as a friend.

Saturday, August 15.
I've been friends with Tony for over 70 years--going back to grade school in Darien, CT. We've done a lot together over these years: sports, traveling, camping and fishing. He was always up for an adventure. He was a loyal friend, and I will miss his sardonic smile, his quiet sense of humor, and his optimistic outlook on life.

Over the last 35 years, Tony and his late wife Susan were our trip mates on numerous memorable outdoor exploits. Many of these involved demanding whitewater canoeing, and several were multi-day trips on remote northern and Arctic rivers. We travelled together in China, Costa Rica and even to Keith’s youthful haunts in the north of England. More recently, road trips into remote parts of the northern Arizona desert were adventures of a more sedentary style.
Tony and Susan were a true class act, whether being gracious hosts in the elegance of their home or uncomplainingly “toughing it out” under a tarp in an arctic sleet storm or on a rugged bug-infested portage. We had many memorable dinners at their home, plotting future exploits or re-living a previous trip.
Adventures of this type develop special bonds, and we will sorely miss him. Now, we have just our memories. But wow, aren’t we lucky to have memories of such experiences with so fine a man?
We are most thankful to have been on a Kananaskis river trip with Tony and Lynne as recently as a couple of weeks ago.
The YaHaTinda is a special place we know well, and we have visited it several times with Tony. He couldn’t have wished for a better place for his final trip– the enchanting valley, horse-riding, and by a river he used to canoe.

Tony and I go back to Darien High School days and have reconnected every few years for travel, visits, or just hanging out times. Our connections always involved hiking, touring lots of outdoor experiences and resurrecting memories of past events and talks about life’s adventures. What a joy it has been to have had Tony in my life all these many years. One of my favorite connections was to discover that he lived in the same town, Lafayette, CA at a kid’s swim meet when he gave my daughters a ride home and I found him at my front door. A truly overwhelming experience. We stayed closer ever since, and have shared a lot. Bless you my friend, till we meet again. Bob Kramer, Palm Desert, CA

Rode more than a few miles with Tony, actually sold him that horse he’s on in the photo. Adventurous to the nth degree, and the epitome of the word gentleman. May the Ya Ha Tinda hold you in her arms forever Tony...and you got your ultimate wish...went out with your boots on. RIP
