Obituary of Maung Maung Oo

January 3, 1951 - Yangon, Myanmar

August 10, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Maung Maung Oo, beloved husband of Nancy Tang, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2020 at the age of 69 years.

Maung was born in Yangon, Myanmar on January 3, 1951. He married his first wife Tin Mar Mar Than and they had three children together, Daisy, Donald, and Serenity. Following the death of his first wife, he immigrated to Canada in 1980 in hopes of working as a Mechanic, and providing a brighter future for his children.

While settling in Calgary, AB, he taught himself English, raised his three children as a single father, and started his career at LSG Sky Chefs as a driver. He would eventually move up to become a manager. It was also here, that he would meet his second wife Nancy Tang. They were married in December of 1986. Maung and Nancy had two children, Valerie and Lancelot. Maung then started a new career as a Calgary Transit Driver where he worked until he retired in 2011.

He was active in the Calgary Burmese Community and instilled the same sense of pride and community in his children. Maung was an aficionado of World War I and World War II history, especially enjoying films of the genre. Maung enjoyed Stephen King novels and was also a proud supporter of the Calgary Public Library.

Maung would return back to Myanmar alone in 1996, where he would reunite with his father, U Maung Maung before his passing. He would take Nancy to Myanmar in 2017 and 2019, where he would introduce her to his sisters, extended family, and friends from his youth. These trips would be some of his most treasured memories.

Besides his loving wife, Maung is survived by his three daughters, Daisy, Serenity and Valerie, two sons, Donald and Lancelot; two grandsons, Riley and Logan Whalen; two sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Maung was predeceased by his first wife Tin Mar Mar Than, his father U Maung Maung, and his mother Daw Kyu Kyu.
