Obituary of Jo-Anne Leigh BARTEL (nee Hawkins)

Jo-Anne Bartel, beloved wife of Werner Bartel of Calgary, AB, was welcomed with the loving arms of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to her new forever home on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the age of   69 years.

Jo-Anne was born in Calgary and with her family moved to Edmonton, Winnipeg, back to Calgary, and to Sicamous, BC. In 1979, she met her devoted husband Werner and they made their home in Calgary where they raised their family. They enjoyed doing everything together. Jo-Anne worked in sales and for many years in the hospitality industry where she ministered to people in their time of need. Jo-Anne loved people. She was involved in her church, loved getting together with friends and family, gardening, talking about politics, and going somewhere warm. She was always doing things for people and taking people under her wing. Jo-Anne made everything more beautiful wherever she went. She always knew all the latest trends and coolest places.  She will be greatly missed by all!

Jo-Anne is survived by her husband of nearly forty-one years Werner, her two daughters, Jennifer Jane (and Paul) Nahas, and Jillian Leigh (and Jon) Meyers; four sisters, Judy (and George) Green, Lori (and Dennis) Urban, Virginia (and Duncan) Wassick, and Sue (and Bryan) Eheler; and brother and sisters-in-law, Otto Bartel, Anna (and Harold) Epp, Martin (and Phyllis) Bartel, Lydia Bartel, and Karl (and Judith) Bartel. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Kate Nahas, William Nahas, Oliver Nahas, Jack Meyers, Maggie Meyers, Ellie Meyers, and Sam Meyers; and a large extended family, nieces and nephews who also share in our loss. Jo-Anne was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Dorothy Belle Hawkins; and her granddaughter Julie Eve Meyers.

Due to COVID-19 the family will be having a private Graveside Service at the Nanton Cemetery.
