Obituary of George Richard Hewett

August 17, 2020 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with deepest sorrow and great sadness that we announce the passing of George Hewett, of Calgary at the age of 84 years. George passed with his family by his side. 

George was born in Winnipeg, MB. He moved, with his family to Calgary, AB when he was seventeen. George graduated from the Reisch American School of Auctioneering in Mason City Iowa in 1958 at twenty years old and completed his electrical apprenticeship with the Canadian Pacific Railway where he worked for fifteen years. He was an electrical foreman with the Calgary Board of Education (Highfield) with thirty years of service and a proud member of The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 254. He achieved his Master Electricians Certificate in 1985 at the age of forty-nine. George enjoyed camping, fishing, cross country skiing, Hawaii, annual family vacations and was a great maker of wine, sherry and port. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh, big heart, generosity and as a mentor to many. 

Besides his loving wife, Valerie, of sixty three years, George is survived by his sons, Roger and Lawrence; grandchildren, Nathan and Meghan; and his sister Verna Hewett, all of Calgary, AB. He will also be missed by other family, friends and numerous nieces and nephews.
