Obituary of Sheelagh Anne TOMIE (nee Hodges)

June 30, 1935 – Calgary, Alberta
August 17, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Sheelagh Tomie of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2020 at the age of 85 years.

Sheelagh worked for many years at Automatic Electric in Lethbridge prior to their move to Calgary where she was employed by AGT now called Telus until her retirement. Sheelagh had many long-time friends and never lost touch with them over the years. After her retirement and the passing of her beloved husband she understood and cherished the importance of family and friends as she aged. Sheelagh never considered herself as aging and only looked forward on life with such a positive outlook. She never once complained about anything and only spoke about how grateful she was about her life.  She loved to paint, sew and to volunteer her time at both Telus and at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 285 where she was actively involved in the Poppy Campaigns and the many activities that the Legion held. She sadly missed all her friends at the Legion when COVID 19 came and her routine for many years had been affected. Sheelagh shared her love with homemade cookies and the tightest warm hugs, and she would also look to provide someone with a kind word to cheer them up. Her goal was to be sure that others always felt included and that no one would feel alone. Sheelagh was extremely proud of her family and valued her many longtime friends and relatives. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by those that had the opportunity to know her and get that needed hug that made you feel loved.

Sheelagh peacefully passed away surrounded by her children daughter Brenda (Bob Parkyn) and son Dean (Lucy Tomie) by her side. Along with her children she is lovingly remembered by four grandchildren, Jarret (Trena) Parkyn, Crystal (Shea) Cordial, Matthew (Nita) Tomie, and Kathleen Tomie; and seven great-grandchildren, Jax and Duke Parkyn, Ivory Cordial, Chloe and Mateo Tomie, Owen Walker and Calla Tomie.  Sheelagh was predeceased by her husband Phillip Tomie and her parents, George and Dorothy Hodges and sister Fran.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Monday, September 28, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at Royal Canadian Legion number 285 at a later date.
