January 13, 1943 – Holland
August 30, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It  is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Elizabeth “Betty” Goyke on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at the age of 77 years.

Betty was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands and at the age of 7 immigrated to Canada with her family in 1951. They lived in Calgary for many years with family and friends near by.  She met her late husband, Gerry and eventually resided in Crossfield, until her passing.

Betty was a very loyal employee for the Calgary Herald, Burns Meats, Lucerne Meat Packers, DPH Engineering and Tim Hortons. She loved to travel, play baseball and golf, write poetry and was very artistic and creative, from sewing to crochet and more.

Determination

When things go wrong,
as they sometimes will,
and it seems like life is all up hill,
But you don’t give in --
you just give it time
Since you're intent
to make the climb…
that’s determination

When you just can't win,
as you sometimes won't,
and you feel like quitting, but you don't…
When you've met defeat,
yet can still smile,
stopping only to rest awhile…
that's determination.
