Jose LAZO-BONILLA

Obituary of Jose Mauricio LAZO-BONILLA

July 3, 1963 – El Salvador
September 3, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Jose Lazo-Bonilla of Calgary, AB passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at the age of 57 years.

Jose was born in Jocoro, Morazan, El Salvador on July 3,1963. He accomplished much throughout his life. Jose graduated in El Salvador with an Industrial Mechanical Diploma from Instituto Técnico Industrial in 1984, and was particularly proud of attaining his AME (M1 License), which allowed him to pursue his passion towards Aircrafts.

He was an enthusiastic employee for Kenn Borek Air for more than twenty years. Jose was noted to have travelled to various countries, thanks to his overhaul and maintenance expertise with various types of aircraft (including the King Air, Twin Otter, and the DC3 variants). His travels included Mexico, Greenland, Panama, Costa Rica, Belize, and the Republic of Georgia.

During The Salvadoran Civil War he emigrated, and worked in Texas, U.S.A. for a portion of the mid 80s. Jose returned to El Salvador for the love of his life. Shortly after returning home he immigrated to Calgary, AB in the winter of 1988. Soon after he became a Canadian Citizen. For much of the 90s and 2000s, Jose proudly raised two sons and a daughter. He enjoyed playing baseball and soccer in both casual and competitive settings. He also enjoyed cycling throughout various locations in Calgary, as well as muscle cars and vehicles in general.

When it came to music, Jose had an appreciation for all genres. He especially loved Classic Rock, and various bands from Latin America. Jose enjoyed being social and sharing meals with loved ones. He particularly liked to bake cakes on his days off, and had a secret formula for a banana cookie recipe, which was lost with him. Many will remember him as a jokester with a loving, yet serious,
demeanour. He enjoyed relaxing quietly in hot tubs and swimming pools.

Jose’s most memorable vacation was going to El Salvador in 2007 with his family. He got the opportunity to revisit many of the places he spent much of his formative years in, and was particularly happy to see all his relatives and extended family.

Jose is survived by his three children, his loving family through-out the U.S.A., Central America, and his valued friends through-out various nations.
