Sylvia and family
Many fond memories of University of Alberta days and many ski trips, rugby games and more than a few liquid refreshments.
A great scholar, important contributor to Petroleum Geology and Science, and a grand friend.
Deepest sympathy to Sylvia and all of the family. May he rest in peace. His memory lives on.

It was a privilege and pleasure to be John's colleague in Dallas in the 1990's. He was a scholar and gentlemen, and we shared Canadian roots. He was well known in the field of petroleum reserves.
Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Dear Josh and Etherington Family,
I was saddened to learn of the loss of your Dad and offer you my heartfelt condolences. What a remarkable and adventurous life John led. I hope your memories and stories of him and of time shared together as a family comfort you now and in the days ahead.
Sincerely,
Stephanie & Matt
My thoughts and prayers are with you Josh (and the entire Etherington family). I want to offer my sincere condolences for your loss of your father. I hope the good memories you have of him will comfort you in the days ahead.
Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of John. I got to know John well collaborating with him on SPE and SPEE matters. He will be deeply missed.
Dearest Sylvia and Family... I was so saddened to hear of the death of John. My heart aches for you. I remember the first time we met at the PF Support Group meeting and John's soft smile and calm manner. Dick and I always admired his quiet strength and resolve. Sylvia, you have been a loving, ever-present advocate, partner, carer and wife. Take solace in the memories of your time together. You are in my thoughts, my hearts, and my prayers.

John was an adventurous young man leaving our small farm to travel and work around the world ... becoming a highly respected geologist and world expert on petroleum reserve reporting. His travels did not allow for many family reunions, but after his IPF diagnosis we three brothers managed a few very enjoyable get togethers. He was a great brother who will be missed.
