Obituary of Ernest (Ernie) Alec CHANNELL

July 1, 1937 – Raven, Alberta
September 18, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

With family by his side, Ernest Channell passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, September 18, 2020.

Ernie was born in Raven, AB to his parents, Arthur and Clara, and was the seventh of eight children. At a young age, Ernie and his family moved to Calgary, AB.  Hockey quickly became a passion for Ernie, and he played into his 80’s. Those who he coached and mentored knew him as Coach Mr. C. He will be remembered by many friends, teammates, and extended family.

Ernie has joined the love of his life, Donna, whom he married on May 19, 1962. He will be greatly missed by his daughter Corinne (Bob) Murray and Son Gordon (Shari) Channell, his Grandchildren, Ryan, Kyla (Tyson), Cheyanne, Cody, Eric, and Taylor; great-granddaughter Tatum, and sister Marg.

At this current time, we are not able to honour Ernie in the way he should be. In the spring a Celebration of Ernie’s Life will be held so we can commemorate him in a fashion he deserves. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ernie’s name can be made directly to Higher Trails at highertrails.ca. This organization represents Ernie’s love of people, love of nature, love of animals, and willingness to help those in need.
