Dear Judy, I am Donna from 1201.I was so shocked to hear about your husband just this week. He was always ready to say hello and I appreciated that as I knew only a few to speak to. I have been near Priddis for11 months on account of virus.
I am so sorry for you and family. Donna knowlton.
Dearest Judy, Cynthia and the entire Soboren family,
We were heart broken and deeply saddened to hear the news of Walter’s passing. Jamal, Parisa and I send our sincerest condolences to you all. May God give you all the peace and strength in the coming days to bear the sadness and loss of your beloved husband, father and grandfather. I remember him from a couple of years ago. On a chilly January night in Vancouver, we gathered at our place for dinner. Laughter, shared stories, and warm hearts were the order of the evening. We will cherish that memory always. He was a good, kind and gentle man. May God rest his soul in peace.
Judy & Family, so sorry to learn of Walter's passing. We first met Walter 15 years ago when he was recommended to handle the real estate sale of our kids' condo. The relator advised our kids with regard to selecting a lawyer, " do you want the young yuppie or the the older guy who will be sincere and not charge you an arm and a leg ! " Little did we know at that time that we would have Walter handle not only our future real estate transactions but also our wills. So refreshing was Walter in his down to earth approach and not to mention his choice of meeting places. When required, we would met at Walter's south office, which was the Tim Horton's at MacLeod Trail & Glenmore Trail. Over coffee we would chat about coins, art, collectables and the legal profession before moving on to legal matters; all in a relaxed manner which was his trademark. He would always ask how our kids were doing. We appreciated his advice on many subjects.
Happy memories silently kept, no need for words, we’ll never forget.

Dear Judy,
Thank you for sending us Tribute for Wally. We lived so much of our lives apart. Our family visits were infrequent but enjoyable despite the bustle involved in traveling long distances with the kids! Wally will always be remembered fondly by me as my brother, uncle to Jennifer and brother-in-law to Bill.
We have fond memories of visiting you and Wally in Calgary for the Stampede, of your hospitality in showing us around Calgary and how much it had grown over the years since I left.
We also remember visiting your mountain cabin where one night a suspected bear woke the kids with menacing growling but turned out it was one of ‘us’ snoring! Lots of laughs over that!!
On a family visit to California, a fun tenting campout for the kids in our backyard had to be scuttled after Grandpa Soboren (jokingly) mentioned that rattlesnakes had been spotted in a neighbors back yard. Naturally some of the kids refused to sleep in the tent so we had to find beds inside, even with our neighbors!! We had never seen a rattlesnake in our back yard.
When we went to San Francisco Wally mostly wanted to browse in technical bookstores (he knew which ones) and leave the rest of us to the sightseeing stuff. He really loved books!!
On trips to the US he told us he liked to stop and study geologic formations along the route. Now when we pass interesting rock formations we think of how he would have enjoyed telling us about their origins and history. He knew a lot about so many things!
We will miss his quirky personality and knowledge.
I am sure Wally knew how fortunate he was to have found a life-partner in you, Judy, who would love and understand him, and help him take a productive, happy path in life.
We love you so much for what you did for Wally. And of course for being the person you are for everyone!!
Love,
Josephine

Dear Baba Judy,
I just wanted you to know that Papa Wally was very special to me. He was my only grandfather that I’d met, and I’m very thankful to have had a close relationship with him. One of my favourite memories with him was going to the mall in Calgary and going to the bookstore. I’d wanted one of the books from a series of novels I was reading, but he bought me three. I still have those books and enjoy reading them. After getting the books, we went to the main area of the mall which had a pond with really pretty fish in it. Near the pond was a bench, and we sat on it for a long while and he told me stories about all sorts of interesting things he knew about. There was never a dull moment and I really wanted learn and listen to what he told me. Papa Wally taught me a lot, and I’ll miss being able to sit with him and have him talk to me about all those interesting subjects. I’ll always remember what a loving and wise person he was.
