Obituary of Ethel Edna PINNEY

June 29, 1941 – Trochu, Alberta
September 24, 2020 – Chestermere, Alberta

Ethel Pinney, beloved mother, gramma and friend, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at the age of 79 years.

Ethel was born in Trochu, Alberta on June 29, 1941. As a child, she had moved with her family to Canmore, Alberta in 1943. As an adult, Ethel settled in Calgary to work, get married and raise a family.

Ethel worked passionately as a bookkeeper, successfully operating her own bookkeeping company for more than fifty years.  She converted many of her clients into friends and family with whom she enjoyed life celebrations and travels to China and Great Britain.

Ethel enjoyed participating in curling in her younger years and later in life her passions shifted to being an avid sports spectator (especially hockey), and an observer of current events.

Ethel was a kind and caring friend whose compassion extended to all members of their families. She made a point to note all birthdays and kept a watchful eye on their safety and happiness. To her own family, her love was infinite, each member was acknowledged daily, and her generosity was notably evident in the gift of two memorable family vacations of Caribbean cruises.

Ethel is survived by her three daughters, Tracey Pinney (Mike Assen), Rhonda Pinney (Steve Healy), Denise Murdick (Dean Murdick); and five grandchildren, Toni–Lee, Cassidi-Rae, Carter, Ethan, and Drew. Ethel is also survived by two sisters Jean Thomas (James) and Elsie Beddow; two sisters-in-law Kay Dyck and Joy Pinney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ethel was predeceased by her husband Ron Pinney; her parents Elias Heikkila and Catherine Greig (Ernie);  two sisters Lois Tilley and Ilene Acheson; and her brother Norman Heikkila.
