Obituary of Mina Margaret JAQUES (nee Munhall)

November 14, 1918 – Renfrew, Ontario
October 3, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Mina Margaret Jaques passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 3, 2020 in Calgary, at the age of 101 years.

She was born in Renfrew, Ontario on November 14, 1918. Mina was predeceased by William MacLean (Mac) Jaques, her loving husband of sixty-five years, married in Ottawa on September 29, 1944. Together they had a beloved son, William Paul (Bill), who died in a traffic accident in 1977 at the age of 31. Mina was also predeceased by her parents Thomas James Munhall and Mary Johanna Holley, and her five older siblings born between 1911 and 1917: Arnold, John, Stella (Blanchette), Edna (Knight), and Kenneth. Mina is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and their offspring whom Mina was always so interested in despite them living far and wide in North America.

Mina was a people person with a unique blend of being both loving and caring, steadfast in “doing what is right” and “speaking her mind”, mostly in defense of others. As a medical secretary and for the rest of her life, Mina was a highly organized and sharply dressed woman, with meticulous handwriting. She loved nature. Mina volunteered in the community, was active with the Royal Canadian Legion Centennial Branch 285 and was an avid bridge and bingo player. Mina and Mac were always very charitable to causes they believed in. In recent years, Mina donated generously to the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.

A Memorial Service will be held for family and friends at the McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.), on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 10:30 a.m., what would have been Mina’s 102nd birthday. For those that would prefer, a virtual link of the Memorial Service will also be available online. A short graveside service for family will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery following the Memorial Service Reception. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Mina’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

In living memory of Mina Jaques, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area just southwest of Calgary by McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
