Obituary of Neeltje (Nellie) OEVERING (nee Van Veen)

June 3, 1930 – Noordwyk, Holland
October 2, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Nellie Oevering, beloved wife of Peter, on Friday, October 2, 2020.  

Nellie was born in Noordwijk, Netherlands to Agatha and Nick Van Veen. She was the oldest of thirteen children. Nellie immigrated to Canada with her parents and twelve siblings in 1951; eventually settled in Calgary where on June 26, 1953 she married Peter with whom she had five children. 

Nellie was a faithful member of the Calgary Reformed Church, it was a big part of her life. She enjoyed being in the Choir and Ladies Guild. Nellie loved playing the piano, baking, family dinners, gardening and the most important thing to her was time with her family.  She will be most remembered for her sweet personality, her kindness, positivity, and easy going nature. She accepted all with open arms and open heart. 

Besides her loving husband of sixty-seven years Peter, she is survived by her children, Paul (Marg), Nick , Mary-Ann (Sam), David, and Agia(Steve); grandchildren, Aaron (Catherine), Jonathon (Lauren), Joel, Crystal, Jeanette, Christopher (Mallory), Brianna, and Ashley; and  great-grandchildren, Emily, Will, Jesse, Holly, Josephine, and Patrick.  Nellie is also survived by her sisters, Mary, Ada (John), Eda, and Henny (Chris); and  brothers, Nick (Johanna), Panc (Francine),Dick (Nora), and Bill (Ann). Nellie was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Martin, Lorne, and Jack; and sister Co.

We loved you very much mom. We will miss you. Rest In Peace.

The family would sincerely like to thank the staff and Dr. Barbara Smyth for their wonderful care while she was in Bow View Manor for the past six and a half years, it was greatly appreciated.
