Obituary of Alys Jeanette KNOPP

November 8, 1936 – London, Ontario
October 5, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Alys passed away peacefully on Monday, October 5, 2020 in Calgary, AB, at the age of 83 in the presence of family.

Alys was born in London, ON, and lived in many areas of Ontario throughout her childhood having even spent a summer living on campus at the University of Western Ontario while her father pursued his Bachelor’s degree.  She developed an early love of drawing, especially fashion illustration, and was accepted into the Ontario College of Art, however other life events brought her west to Alberta.

Alys was a voracious reader, and was rarely seen without a book in hand, having a passion for mysteries and science fiction. In recent years she especially loved using her computer to devour online stories and fanfiction. She had a special place in her heart for classical music and had often attended the CPO and performances of Calgary Opera.  She also enjoyed spending countless hours volunteering at her children’s school as they were growing up, reading and helping in the classroom.

Alys is survived by her husband Arnold; two children, David and Gary; and her four grandchildren, Rylie, Cierra, Cailen and Connor.  She was predeceased by her parents Alexander Duncan Rae and Alice Louise Thomas.
