Obituary of Michael John "Jack" CUSH

October 20, 1926 - October 5, 2020

It is with tremendous sadness we announce the passing of Jack Cush on Monday, October 5, 2020 at the age of 93 years.

Jack was born in East Calgary, the middle child of John and Eileen Cush’s nine children. Jack was predeceased by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Helen in 2015. From a very young age Jack was an avid golfer. Shagging balls and caddying at Inglewood Golf course was the start of this lifelong passion.  Jack also loved hockey and, as a youth, played for the Calgary Buffaloes hockey team. We always looked for his team photo that hung in the Corral, and now the Saddledome. Jack loved the outdoors, with hiking, cross country skiing and cycling at the top of his list. He also enjoyed sailing in earlier years. He became a member of Silver Springs G&CC in his retirement, and enjoyed many years on the course. He and Helen enjoyed travel, camping in the Vanagon and springtime in Victoria. Family was very important to Jack, as everyone would know. His faith was also an important part of his life as he was a very patient, kind, gentle, compassionate and empathetic man. He has helped more people than we will ever know. He was well respected and was a wonderful role model for all to follow. Jack worked as a draftsman, landman and administrator at Stanolind/Amoco for thirty-five years. He earned his accounting CMA in the evenings during that time.  Jack met Helen at Stanolind, and they were married in 1954. He was an outstanding father to Mike and Carol, and welcomed David as his son-in-law. His pride and joy was his grandson, Dexter. They were best buddies, on and off the golf course. Jack and Helen were very happy at the Village Manor at Garrison Woods. Special thanks to the assisted living “ladies” that made Jack’s life so much easier these past couple of years.

Jack is survived by his son Mike, daughter Carol and son-in-law David, and grandson Dexter. He is also survived by his brother Ken Cush, sister-in-law Alice Cush, and brother-in-law Don Cameron. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews that were all very special to him.

A Celebration of Jack’s Life will take place at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Jack’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
