Obituary of Jeanette Anne STEWART (nee McRae)

April 3, 1935 – Calgary, Alberta

September 22, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts the family of Jeanette (Jan) Stewart of Calgary, AB announce her passing on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at the age of 85 years at Foothills Medical Center with Edward (Ted), her loving and inseparable husband of sixty-four years by her side.

Jeanette was affectionately known as Mama by her family and will always be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and a caring, compassionate, and fun grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family immensely and they were always her priority. Jeanette and Ted were super fans when it came to any event involving their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; they never failed to miss an important game, recital, graduation, or birthday. Jeanette loved watching all sports, especially with Ted at her side, and was a huge fan of the Flames, Stampeders and Blue Jays. Perhaps her biggest passion in sports was golf. She was an active member of the Fox Hollow ladies league for over thirty years until as late as this past July, which provided many cherished life-long friendships and accomplishments. Jeanette recorded what is believed to be the last hole in one in Calgary (if not in Canada) in the past millennium on December 28, 1999. Above all, Mama’s legacy is that she was the rock of the family and her belief in the strength of her family helped to make it what it is today.

Besides her loving husband, Jeanette is also survived by daughters, Brenda (Kelvin), Karen (Rod), and Shelley (Rod); and son Ted (Stacey), her grandchildren, Aaron (Ben), Brett, Lindsay (Derek), Kimberly (Neil), Stewart, Geoff (Emily), Garrett (Caitlin), Joel (Jasmine), Brenden and Devyn; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Julianna, Kohen, Maggie and Bennett, all of Calgary and Okotoks, AB. She is also survived by her brother James, sister-in-law Helen, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Jeanette was predeceased by her parents, Philip and Mary; and siblings, John, Valerie and Philip.

A private family service will be held at a later due to current and COVID-19 circumstances. In lieu of flowers,  if friends so desire, memorial tributes in Jeanette’s name may be made directly to the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter, www.calgarywomensshelter.com/index.php/give/individual, or the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Society, https://cfbts.org/donate/.  Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Jeanette’s obituary at www.MacinnisandHolloway.com.

The family would like to thank Dr. Dale Cole for his support and care over many years.
