Obituary of Ralph O'Gorman Solinger

Ralph Solinger, beloved husband of Lois, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 9, 2020. Ralph was born in Brooksby, SK to Frank and Edith (nee Coverette). In 1934, the family moved from Brooksby to Galt (Cambridge), ON. Ralph attended school in Galt and graduated from Galt Collegiate Institute. Ralph met Lois Brennan at the beach in Grand Bend, ON. They were married on December 27, 1952 and moved to Niagara Falls, where their sons, Rob (Evie) and Rick (Margaret) were born. In 1967, the family moved to Calgary, AB, where Ralph established the industrial division for Fuller Brush. In 1975, Ralph and Lois started their own company, Calgary Caretaking Supplies, and ran it for twenty-three years until 1998, when they sold the business to their employees. Dad and Mom were active skiers at Sunshine Village, golfed at Shaganappi Golf Course and of course, duplicate bridge was a main stay in their life. Ralph was a leading force at the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, where he volunteered for many years on the Creative Living / Western Art Exhibit. They travelled extensively throughout the world, enjoying numerous cruises with their friends and family. Ralph will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, quick wit, willingness to listen and the time he gave to any and all that asked for his help. In addition to his loving wife and sons, Grandpa Ralph was blessed to have eight grandchildren, Nicole (Craig) Campbell, Jared (Courtney) Solinger, Tyson (Penny) Solinger, Justin Solinger, Jessica (Kade) Solinger, Lauren (Alvin) Law, Rebecca (Tarek) Solinger, and Shae Solinger. His legacy continues with eight great-grandchildren, Isla and Fergus Campbell, Marlow and Sloan Solinger, Silas and Maya Solinger, and Owen and Jordan Law. Family get togethers at Grandma and Grandpa’s house will provide lasting memories. Ralph himself grew up in a caring and loving family and is survived by his sisters, Eileen (Sidney) Pickard and Phil (Tom) Wilson. He was predeceased by his sisters, Julia (Roy) Murphy and Laura (Jim) Cruise; and his brothers, Eddie (Alice) Solinger, Robert (Doris) Solinger, and Larry (Veronica) Solinger. A memorial service for Ralph will be held at a later date.
