Obituary of Shirley Patricia MUSHEY (nee Chuchmuch)
July 12, 1941 – Angusville, Manitoba
October 12, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta
Shirley Patricia Mushey, beloved mother, sister, aunt and grandmother passed away on Monday, October 12, 2020 at the age of 79 years.
Shirley was raised with her eight siblings on the farm near Angusville, Manitoba. She attended Angusville School and went on to obtain a secretarial diploma in Winnipeg. Shortly after graduating she married Nick Mushey and they moved to Thompson, Manitoba, to begin their life together.
Nicholas Junior (who she affectionately called “Nicky”) was born in 1962 and after taking some time off, Shirley started juggling her parenting duties with working at Canada Post and Indian Affairs (as it was then called). In 1976, Shirley and Nick embarked on an exciting opportunity to be part of one of the first oil sands ventures in Alberta. The family packed their bags and headed to Fort McMurray. Shirley secured a position as purchasing agent for Syncrude, a position she held until her retirement in 1995.
Once retired in Canmore she used her experience and skills to volunteer with various environmental organizations and the EarthAnimal Humane Education and Rescue Society. She loved spending time with her cats (Jocko, Dusty, Simba, Tiger), and when they passed on she poured her heart into the Rescue Society, generously supporting it with her time, energy and finances, and saving many lives through her work. She also loved to spend time talking, laughing and having fun with her extended family whenever she had the opportunity.
Shirley is survived by her son Nicholas (Kathy Krug), two grandchildren, Alexandra and Christopher Krug-Mushey; her siblings, Verne (Viola) Chuchmuch, Evans (Mary-Ann) Chuchmuch, Andy (Val) Chuchmuch, Lynn (Kelly) Chuchmuch, Theresa (Walter) Spencer, Michael (Charlotte) Chuchmuch, and Michalene Olson; sister-in-law Iris Chuchmuch, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Gathering will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m., subject to restrictions on numbers due to the pandemic. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
