Condolences
I have known Gulam since he was manager of G S Martin in Uganda as he used to represent the Company I worked for, Alexander Fraser & Son Ltd. When Idi Amin expelled Gulam and Khatoon and their very young Family in 1972 they came initially to temporary accommodation at Stanstead Airport in the UK where we had contact, before they moved to Canada.
After a short time we appointed Gulam to represent us in Toronto and that is when I really got to know him in person during my annual visits to Canada. We had very good times together.
We have been friends ever since and kept in contact over the years and into retirement. He was an extremely decent , honest and caring person . One of life's true Gentlemen. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. I was also deeply saddened to hear of the sudden death of Khatoon and Gulam's son Faud. My heart goes out to the entire Family at this traumatic time. Gulam and Faud may no longer be here, but fond memories of them will be with everyone forever.
My memory of Gulam uncle goes back to the 60’s. I remember him as a gentleman. Always smiling! Seeing his photographs, he did not appear to have changed.
I wish I could have met him in Canada; however, I am thankful to be acquainted with Faheem and his family in Vancouver.
My deepest condolences to the family on losing two wonderful souls in such a short period of time. I pray that The Almighty gives you all the strength and courage to overcome your losses.
May his soul rest in eternal peace, along with Fuad.
Sincerely,
Mahamood Vallani
I always admired Uncle as a man of great character and grace. I can't imagine what it was like to have your life completely upend in Uganda in the early 1970s. Eventhough we had many political talks over the years, I never heard Uncle speak with bitterness or recrimination for what happened. I truly admired that. Canada your second home was certainly a better place for having you and your family come here. Thank you for being kind and generous to my family. You lived a good life and did many great things. You will be truly missed. Rest in Peace Gulam
