Obituary of June GROENING

June 23, 1936 – Morden, Manitoba
October 17, 2020 – Okotoks, Alberta

June of Okotoks, AB, passed away with her four daughters by her side on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at the age of 84 years. 

June was born in Morden, MB on June 23, 1936. She was raised in Elm Creek, MB and moved to Winnipeg in 1949.

She married Peter in 1956 in Winkler, MB and moved to Winnipeg shortly after where they had their four daughters. After she retired from a long career at Nortel Networks, they moved to Alberta in 1994, spending seventeen years in Calgary and then moving to her final home in Okotoks.

June loved spending her summers camping and especially spending twenty-six years with her friends at Riverbend Campground in Okotoks. 

Her most memorable vacation was when she went to Europe to visit the resting places of her two brothers who were killed in World War II. She kept saying “that was a dream come true”. 

June is survived by her four  daughters, Sharon Marshall (Darrell), Lucy Pilch, Darlene Ducharme and Patti Groening; ten grandchildren, David, Michael and Candace Storm; Shawn, Ryan and Crystal Pilch; Mandi Sanders and Dustin Gowanlock; Jennifer and Chelsey Groening; ten great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kiera, Destiny-Raye, Seth, Jess, Colten, Addison, Dawson, Lincoln and McKinley and her dog Casey.

June was predeceased by her husband Peter, daughter Patsy, parents William and Emma Carriere, eleven brothers and sisters, grandson Christopher and one of her best friends, Kirsten Slot. 

We want to send a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Rockyview General Hospital for their care and compassion during her brief stay.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, October, 23, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Covid 19 protocols will be in place. Anyone wanting to watch the service virtually, can do so by reaching out to the family for the Zoom link.
