Obituary of Marian “Durlene” GREEN-AMATTO

August 2, 1937 – Lethbridge, Alberta
October 18, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Durlene Green-Amatto, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at the age of 83 years.

Durlene was born in Lethbridge, AB in 1937, and relocated to Blairmore, AB where she met her husband Rocco Amatto; they were married in June of 1957.

Durlene started her career with AGT in Blairmore and spent the rest of her professional life working in customer service for companies like the Hudson Bay Group, Shaganappi Chev Olds, and the Central Trust Bank in Calgary, AB. She was a wonderful homemaker and mother throughout her life and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Durlene and her sister Betty were thick as thieves, and although separated by marriage and geography, remained extremely close throughout their lives. With daily phone calls a routine, vacations to London, England to visit family, and many road trips up and down the QE2 for extended visits, there was a lifetime of love and memories shared by these two musketeers.

Durlene was an amazing mother/grandmother, who was loved by all her family and friends. Never one to complain, she was always on time, kind-hearted, and the life of most parties. Durlene loved her coffee, cigarettes, and wine, as well as spending time at her favourite casinos with friends. She was a great listener, problem solver, and friend. Durlene had a calmness about her that was unparalleled.  She was trustworthy, caring, loving, and ready to help anyone who needed it. The last few years were difficult for Durlene with her failing health, however, the birth of her first great-grandchild in August of 2019 kept her strong and purposeful day-to-day. She always wanted the title of GG (great-grandmother) and wore the moniker with pride. Love of life and family kept her battling through some challenging health issues.

Durlene was strong and caring with an infectious smile. Her love and laughter will be missed by all those that had the pleasure of meeting this beautiful woman.

Durlene is survived by her three children, Jay (Carrie) Amatto, Darrell (Betty) Amatto, and Shelly (Troy) Tendeck; eight grandchildren, Jordan, Kristi, Tayler, Mitchell, Tyler, Casey, Ryan and Brendan; and one great-grandchild Braelyn.  Durlene is also survived by her sister and soul mate Betty Heisler, as well as many nieces and nephews she loved and adored.

Durlene was predeceased by her father Sylvanus (Van) Green in 1940, her mother Hannah Wachtler in 1995, stepfather George Wachtler in 1992, and husband Rocco Amatto in 1994.

Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Durlene’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
