Obituary of Sheila Marie FOSTER (nee Cronin)

December 26, 1937 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
October 17, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Sheila Foster, beloved wife of Barry John Foster, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at the age of 82 years.

Sheila was born in Saskatoon, SK, on December 26, 1937. She received her schooling there, graduating from the Sion Academy. She married Barry in 1957 and moved to Calgary in 1960. Sheila accomplished much through her life and was particularly proud of her many stained-glass pieces, Christmas stockings, and quilts, some of which received awards at the Calgary Stampede. She stopped participating in the contests because she did not want the publicity.  Despite being humble about her education she was always curious and constantly improved her knowledge of various topics throughout her life.

Her most prized possession was her family. Sheila’s generous and unending love, patience and support along with the encouragement she provided to everyone in the family will always be remembered with love. She respected each individual for who they were. She will be remembered for her forthright talk. “If you don’t want a straight opinion, don’t ask Sheila for one”. She was known to be a storyteller that held her audience spellbound with laughter and appreciation. Her faith as a devout Catholic was her primary focus in life, constantly improving her knowledge as she looked forward to the day she would join our Lord.

Besides her loving husband Barry, Sheila is survived by her daughter Brenda Foster, granddaughters, Amanda (Geoffrey) Thomas, Stephanie (Jameson) McIntosh, Kennedy Foster, Joewie Bieles, Jescell Marie Bieles, Jeemarie Bieles and Bryanne Stonehouse, and her son Stuart (Jescelyn) Foster all of Calgary; and great-grandchildren,  Abigail and Evelyn Thomas. She is also survived by her sister Kathleen Wilcox of Calgary. Sheila was predeceased by her son John Patrick Foster, and brothers, Gerald and Michael Cronin
