Obituary of Dorothy GOA (nee Pappel)

December 22, 1930 – Emerson, Manitoba
October 20, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Dorothy Goa of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the age of 89 years.

Dorothy was raised in Emerson, MB and worked as a telephone operator for many years. During the great Manitoba flood in 1950, she met a dashing, young banker who had been transferred to Emerson. Dorothy and Carsten were married shortly thereafter and for the next sixty-eight years, lived in various towns and cities throughout western Canada. They resided in Calgary for the past forty-seven years and enjoyed traveling to other countries and meeting new friends. They were always proud of their family and looked forward to family gatherings. A recent highlight was the birth of their great-grandson, Thomas, who was born on January 12, 2020.

Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Mark Sherley; and granddaughter Jillian (Jordan). Dorothy is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband Carsten, in February 2020; and by her brother, Fred and sisters, Auguste, Elsie and Mabel.
