Obituary of Adri NUNWEILER

June 12, 1930 – The Hague, Netherlands January 23, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta Adri Nunweiler of Calgary and formerly of Laporte, SK, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Father Lacombe Care Centre in Calgary at the age of 87 years. Adri Oort was born in The Hague 1930. She studied nursing in England before moving to Saskatchewan in 1952 where she worked as a nurse in the Kindersley hospital and later in Eatonia where she met Walter Nunweiler. They married in 1954 and spent forty-three years together in Laporte, raising their family and farming until Walter died in 1997. Adri was an energetic community volunteer, taking on leadership roles with many organizations, including the Community Hall, the Lutheran Church and the Figure Skating Club. She was a longtime Laporte correspondent for the Kindersley Clarion, Donor’s Choice canvasser and enthusiastic Telemiracle supporter. Adri was very creative – she had an enormous garden and loved to grow flowers, read, paint and sew and enjoyed teaching crochet classes for the community college. She was excited to become the Laporte Postmaster in 1982 and remained in that role for sixteen years. She moved to Calgary in 2004 to be closer to her daughters and moved into the Father Lacombe Care Center in 2009. She was an extraordinary person whose legendary smile brightened the days of most everyone who knew her. She will be missed by her family as well as the many staff and residents she befriended during her nine years in care. Adri is survived by son and a daughter-in-law, Martin and Kari; son Tony; two daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Jerry Poroznuk and Sonja and Greg Leduc; seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by an infant daughter in 1970 and her husband Walter in 1997. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home.
