Obituary of Evelyn Irene SINCLAIR (nee Barry)

February 27, 1926 – Edmonton, Alberta
October 21, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Evelyn Sinclair, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 following a fun, family-filled afternoon. Evelyn was 94 years of age and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Evelyn was born in Edmonton on February 27, 1926. She was the daughter of Michael and Irene Barry, the sixth of eleven children.

Evelyn married David in 1951 and began her life in Calgary. She was known for her beautiful smile and contagious laughter. Evelyn brightened any room that she walked into with her gentle spirit and twinkling Irish eyes. She was deeply loved by her in-laws; the Sinclairs hosted many, many, family celebrations where she earned the title of “the best cook south of the Bow river”.

Evelyn's role as a mother was the cornerstone of her life; she excelled at it, with her fabulous sense of humour and innate kindness. It has been a blessing to have Evelyn as our Mother. In 2006, Evelyn decided to return to school. Upon recommendation of her son Barry she attended the University of Calgary for Mini Medical School. For the next two years this was Evelyn's hobby; very impressive for a being in her youthful 80’s. Evelyn went on to assist and publish David’s Memoirs in her 90’s.

For the last decade of Evelyn's life, she lived with her daughter and son in-law. This time was full of celebration and playfulness; a precious time for all. The last few years Evelyn resided at George Boyak. The staff became like her extended family, always full of compassion and love.

Evelyn will be lovingly remembered by her four children and their spouses, Barry, Margie, Brian and Bruce; her many wonderful grandchildren, sister Arlene, brother Gary, and her, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, husband David Sinclair, brothers, Wilf, Cec, Leo, Roy, Mel, and Doug; and sisters, Pauline and Doreen.
