Obituary of Eleanor Jeannette ANDERSON

May 17, 1943 – Willingdon, Alberta

October 26, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Eleanor Anderson, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020 at the age of 77 years.

Eleanor was born in Willingdon, AB on May 17, 1943.  After completing high school, she moved to Edmonton and met Dale during those years while living in the same apartment building. She married Dale Anderson in December of 1970 and had two beautiful children Tamara and Scott.

Eleanor was a bright light to many. She was a faithful friend and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and awesome auntie.

She was a volleyball and swimming mom, and spent many hours supporting, volunteering, and driving her children to their sporting activities. She also loved watching her grandchildren participate and compete in their sports and hobbies. You always knew she was cheering you on, because of the recognizable “whoo, whoo”, that filled the air.

She had a passion for swimming, walking, biking, the ballet, and traveling.  She loved having a coffee at the cabin and listening to the leaves rustle, doing yoga on the beach in Waikiki, and traveling around the world during her many trips to visit family in Australia.  Her most memorable vacation destination was Bora Bora.

Eleanor accomplished much throughout her life. She learned to swim in her forties, after overcoming her fear of the water.   She was particularly proud of the time that she competed at the Talisman Centre in her first swim meet on June 5, 2012.  She also loved and treasured her time volunteering and supporting the team from Romania during the 1988 Olympics in Calgary.

She will be most remembered for her hugs, strong faith, listening to your secrets, finding trouble, and making memories.

Besides her loving husband, Eleanor is survived by her two children and their spouses, Tamara and Jason Assen, and Scott and Johanna Anderson; four grandchildren, Kennedy, Oliver, Jake, and Ethan.  She was predeceased by her parents, Jean and Metro, brother Willis, and sister Caroline Romanko.
