Obituary of Jack STILES

May 5, 1932 – Toronto, Ontario
October 24, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the family of Jack Stiles of Calgary, AB announce his passing on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the age of 88 years.

Although he loved his life in Calgary, a large part of his heart remained in his home city of Toronto where he was born May 5, 1932.  It was there that he grew up with, and married “the girl next door”, Beverley. Starting his working career as a butcher, he found his true calling in sales which led to the selling of tire patches with Tip Top Vulcanising and then to his twenty-eight successful years with Rothmans, Benson & Hedges Inc. which took Jack and his family from Toronto, to Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg and finally settling in Calgary in 1975.

Jack LOVED life and lived it to the fullest. He cherished his memories as a kid growing up in inner-city Toronto, and hunting and fishing “with the guys” as a young man.  He loved the game of golf, skiing and shooting a game of pool.  His passion for woodworking left all of us with furniture and toys, all made with love.  Always “working the room”, sharing stories of his and Bev’s world travels and North American camping trips, there wasn’t a person that Jack could not engage in conversation!  This love of life was surpassed only by his tremendous love and pride of his family.

Jack passed away gently, peacefully and in the same manner as he lived his whole life….”I did it my way.”

Jack is survived by the love of his life Beverley (nee Phillips), his children, Sharon (Peter) Newcombe, Paul (Joanne), Colin (Susan); and his grandchildren, Christopher (Audrey) Newcombe, Michael (Danielle), Taylor (Graham) Kortje, Reid, Carmen (Jeremy) Braynen, Mark (Lexi), Michelle, and Julia.  He was also so grateful for the addition of his six great-grandchildren, Lachlan, Keegan, Jack, Lincoln, Harlow, and Brooks.

Our deepest gratitude to the incredibly kind and compassionate nurses of Unit 74 at the Rockyview Hospital, who assisted Jack in his passing and ensured that every single grandchild was able to say their good-byes, and “thank you” to Grandpa.

A celebration of Jack’s wonderful life will be held at a private family gathering. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Jack’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

In living memory of Jack Stiles a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES.
