Obituary of Finn Peder RASMUSSEN

January 15, 1942 – Odense, Funen, Denmark

October 25, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Finn Rasmussen, beloved husband, father and Morfar, of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at the age of 78 years after a short battle with MDS.

Finn was born in Odense, Denmark on January 15, 1942 to Ranveig and Frank Rasmussen. He spent his formative years there until his adventurous spirit brought him to Canada in April of 1964. Upon arriving in Calgary, AB, Finn found a welcoming bunch of fellow Danes at a Danish boarding house owned by "The Mother of the Danes" Agnes Johansen. This is where he met and formed lifelong friendships and decided to make Calgary his new home.

On a night out on the town, he met a British girl named Anne at a dance at the German Club. Anne shared his adventurous spirit and the two embarked on a romance that would stand the test of time. They were happily married for fifty-one fabulous years and had two lovely daughters that were the apple of Finn's eye. Finn and Anne's passion was travelling and together with their family, they travelled the world. Finn enjoyed meeting new people and visiting new places, but loved to visit his family back home in Denmark, Norway, and England.

Finn's other passion was entertaining friends and family with Anne and hosting relatives and friends from overseas. Dinner parties and get togethers were frequent and plentiful, and guests were always greeted with a warm smile and the promise of a fun visit. The Danish Canadian Club was also a favorite hang out as Finn was proud of his Danish heritage and very fond of his Danish cuisine. As a long standing member of the club, he was often seen "skoal-ing" over a selection of open-faced sandwiches or raising a glass of akvavit at the Christmas smorgasbord, which he loved so much.

Finn worshipped his family and was often seen running around here and there picking up and dropping off his grandchildren and supporting them at every soccer/hockey/badminton/tae kwon do/lacrosse game and practice, dance and music performance, and air cadet parade and activity, along with Anne.

Finn will be deeply missed, but is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Anne (nee Hardman), his two adoring daughters and their spouses, Andrea (Michael) Chant and Karen (Andrew) Darrach; grandchildren, Majken and Erik Chant, and Kaitlyn and Brooke Darrach, as well as his dear family and friends both here and abroad. Finn was predeceased by his parents, Ranveig and Frank Rasmussen, and his in-laws, Caroline and Thomas Hardman.
