Obituary of Daphne May KUNTZ

January 16, 1926 – Chobham, Surrey, England
October 27, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Daphne Kuntz of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at the age of 94 years.

Daphne was born to Mabel (nee Sturt) and William Rapley in Chobham, Surrey, England. She met, then married on July 29, 1944, Frank J.M. Kuntz, a Canadian Serviceman stationed in England. Daphne went to school in Chobham and after reaching the age of graduation she went to work as a scullery maid. During the war Daphne worked in the local parachute factory. When the war ended Daphne and Frank stayed in England and raised Graham and Andrea. When the Korean conflict was announced Frank reenlisted. This began Daphne’s travels. In January 1955, Daphne, with Graham and Andrea landed on Pier 21, in Halifax. They met Frank who was posted to Camp Borden in Ontario. They were then posted to Calgary then to Soest, West Germany, where Sharon was born. Their final posting was in 1963 to Calgary. Daphne worked for thirty years as a care aide at Central Park Lodge. She was very active with her union as the local shop steward. She was also on the bargaining committee. Daphne retired and continued for a few years to help seniors stay in their own houses as long as possible. Daphne lived a full life. She liked to travel, visit, go out with the “girls from CPL”, go to her monthly war brides luncheons and to spend time with her family. She loved a good laugh. She was independent in her own home (with the help of home care) until she was 91. Then various health related issues occurred. Daphne was very proud to be a war bride. She was a member of the Bowness Legion and the Alberta War Brides Association. She was also one of the faces of the City of Calgary Snow Angels Campaign.

Daphne leaves to mourn her, three children, Graham (Madeleine) Kuntz, Andrea Tapp, Sharon (Frank) Beaulieu; three grandchildren, Andrew (Teresa) Tapp, Lesley (Ryan) Boorsma, Trevor (Christine) Beaulieu; and three great-grandchildren, Tyson Tapp, Sayah Boorsma, Maia Boorsma; her brother Reg Rapley (Ann), her sister Eileen Richardson (Alan) both in England; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Frank, her mother and father, her infant brother, Cecil, sister Evelyn Carnzu, and Frank's brothers and sisters.
