Obituary of Gelsomina SARTORE (nee Miotti)

Gelsomina Sartore (nee Miotti), beloved wife, mother, and Nonni, of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at the age of 95 years.

Gelsomina was born in Villa del Conte, Padova, Italy on October 16, 1925, to Francesco Miotti and Lavinia Barsi, she was the first of seven children. She married Giovanni Sartore in Italy on September 25, 1948. They immigrated to Canada in spring of 1959, with their two children, Udila and Giuseppe (Joe), and made Calgary their new home.

Gelsomina worked many jobs when she arrived to Calgary helping to provide for her family, she spent many years working at Terrill’s Greenhouse growing roses until her retirement. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gelsomina is survived by her two children, Udila (Mike) Mastrofrancesco and Joe (Susan) Sartore; her grandchildren, Evonna (Jason) Bercier, Carla (Frank) Mastrofrancesco Hobbs, Michael (Stacey) Sartore; and eleven great-grandchildren, Austin, Ellesia, Ava and Nicolas Bercier, Michael, Danielle and Ariana Mastrofrancesco Hobbs, Gabrielle, Matteo, Ella and Cristian Sartore. Gelsomina is also survived by her loving sister Caterina (Ietta) Miotti, of San Martino Di Lupari, Italy, and many nieces, nephews and cousins from Calgary and Italy.

Gelsomina was predeceased by her husband Giovanni Sartore, two brothers, Giuseppe and Luigino; three sisters, Maria, Regina and Teresina; and she was also predeceased sadly by her grandson Christopher Sartore.
