Thank you for calling to let me know that Harry Edmore Palmer passed away. I first met Harry when I delivered the Calgary Heard Newspaper to his home in Mount Royal so many years. Since then he became my best friend as well as mentor and advisor. I remembered I told him that I didn’t have any friends in Calgary. Then he told me just have one is enough and he is right. Harry is kind and generous.
It is impossible to express how sorry we are that Harry passed away. Please accept my most sincere condolences and wishes that Joyce and her family can find comfort as you all deal with loss. My thoughts and prayers are with Joyce and her family. If there is anything we can do, please let me know.
With love from Songly and my family

My heart and thoughts go out to all the members of the Palmer dynasty at the loss of Harry, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Harry is a standout individual in my experience, a complex and multi-talented man. He possessed a quiet energy. I remember his easy laugh, twinkling eyes and kind smile. In response to the typical social nicety of inquiring how he was, he responded, "I'm lovely!" And he was.
I will always remember our first meeting at a Trans Canada Pipelines Christmas party in 1974. I was on the arm of one of his most devoted proteges, Menno; meeting "the boss" was a big moment in a girl's fledgling relationship. Harry and Joyce made me feel very comfortable although, when he invited me to dance, I was all left feet and somewhat in panic mode. Wow! that man knew how to dance (even if I thought he held me somewhat too close on such short acquaintance!). Thus began an enduring relationship with Joyce and Harry which I have valued far beyond the evidence of my devotion over the past years.
Thank you, Harry, for your inspiration, counsel and friendship. Your talent will live forever in your many works of photographic art, both published and unpublished. They are amongst my most treasured possessions!
We were saddened to read of Harry's passing and send our condolences to Joyce and family.
Harry and Joyce were neighbors decades ago, however, we followed his photo exploits and successes since. A number of his treasured photos (including our two daughters) and his books are still with us as a reminder of good times.
Our thoughts are with you at this sad time.
Harry, keep looking for the best lighting angles!
We are making a donation to the Alberta Children's' Hospital.
It is with sadness that I read of Harry's passing. Although I knew him for a relatively short time, his impact on me, and The Ranchmen's Club has been profound. His beautiful photos shown in our Wolves Den, along with the stories, meeting you, his loving family, and our many private conversations will resonate. He was an example of a life well lived to us all.
He lived, he laughed, he loved, and he left. And, the world will never be the same without Harry Palmer.
Thinking of you all,
Kimberley Iwamoto
General Manager, The Ranchmen's Club

From a young couple at the time with new born in tow and another on the way we were transferred to Calgary. Bought a house
next door to guess who ?? Joyce and Harry and family. -- Immediately welcomed and made to feel at home in the big City.
Not to mention the hospitality but also baby sitting services -Susan, Terry, ,Bruce, and Matt [who paraded up and down the street as a sentinel .
Sincerely,
Nancy and Gordon Whitham
I first met Harry at a computer trade show, when he was researching various options for moving from the world of chemistry-based photographic processes to digital photography. He invited me to his home, where he showed me his darkroom and workshop. Soon after, as he began to make his first inkjet prints, he invited me to his first gallery exhibit of digital work. Over the years, I went to many of his exhibit openings, and marvelled at his growth and development as a fine art and documentary photographer in the digital medium. I'll always treasure my memories of our friendship, rooted in our shared interest in visual storytelling. I shall miss his smile, which was both kind and mischievous. My thoughts and prayers go out especially to his wife Joyce, and to their children.
Thank you Terry for calling to let us know of Harry’s passing. Despite the gaps in our ages, my sister Brenda and I are first cousins of Harry’s. Our Dad Richard Palmer was younger brother to Harry's Dad Ned Palmer. We always appreciated how Harry kept in touch, and included us in his family photo emails.
Peter and I saw Harry in Calgary several years ago, and had a nice visit with him. We shared some old photos of our mutual Palmer grandparents which was very special.
We’re so sorry for your loss, and send our sympathies to Joyce and all the family. Sincerely, Janet (Palmer) & Peter John, Brenda (Palmer) Ramsden
