Obituary of Greg Brandon BOZARTH

July 18, 1981 – Peace River, Alberta
October 23, 2020 – Victoria, British Columbia

It is with very heavy hearts we announce the passing of Greg Brandon Bozarth in Victoria, B.C, on Friday, October 23, 2020 at the age of 39 years. Greg battled his addiction and depression with courage and quiet dignity for much of his life.

Greg was born July 18, 1981 in Peace River, AB. He grew up and went to school in Calgary where he made many lifelong friendships while attending school, playing numerous sports and growing up in the Deer Run area.  He loved playing hockey and skiing, but he also played lacrosse and baseball. He had a soft spot in his heart for all animals, especially his four legged companion, Lyka.

When Greg was young he loved camping and spending as much time as he could with his grandparents.  This love and admiration for his grandparents continued through his whole life. In his teens Greg moved to northern Alberta where he met many good friends and started a career in the Oil & Gas Industry. This led Greg to become a Red Seal Journeyman Steamfitter/Pipefitter. He worked in Fort McMurray and throughout Alberta, eventually in the ship yards and other places in Victoria, B.C.  Greg’s lifelong love of water and his dislike of Alberta winters drew him to Vancouver Island in 2014 where he lived until his passing.

Greg loved to travel and explore new places.  He was always up for a new adventure.  Some of his most memorable vacations were Disneyland when he was ten, Las Vegas for his twenty-first birthday, Cuba with his dad and brothers, and Toronto in January of this year.

Greg loved attending sporting events with his friends. He had a great sense of humour and could quote many funny lines from his favourite movies. His encyclopedic knowledge of music made him an admirable foe in any “name that tune” competition. He also had a passion for cars, especially his Firebird and Camaros.

Greg cared about people in the purest way. He loved them for who they were and he wished the best for them. He was quick to come to the aid of the less fortunate through acts such as helping deliver food to the homeless or helping to counsel others struggling with their own mental health conditions. Greg had so much goodness, so much capacity to bring happiness to others. The world is a lesser place without him.

Greg will be missed everyday by his mother Mary (John), his father Darryl; brothers, Kyle, Troy (Megan), Austin (Edie), and Tim (Melissa). Greg was also survived by his grandmother Elsie Gerk; grandparents, Elsie and Nels Bozarth, Jean and Tony Vlooswyk; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Those who knew Greg, even just a little lost a shining light in their lives.
