Obituary of Gerald (Gerry) Bruce THOMPSON

October 20, 1937 - Rossland, British Columbia
October 22, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Gerry Thompson of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at the age of 83 years. 

Gerry was born in Rossland, BC, and graduated high school in Saskatchewan. Gerry had a passion for art, drawing and painting, attending The Vancouver School of Art and the University of Saskatchewan where he studied Art History. Gerry worked many years in the retail advertising business and was working for Co-op as head Advertising Manager where he met his wife Susan. Gerry became an instant step father and took on the challenge with patience, dignity and class. Gerry loved camping and the outdoors and would meet for a reunion with his family in BC every June. Gerry had many friends in his community and got along with everyone, he retired in 1995 to devote his time to his wife and his love of painting. Gerry will be missed as he was loved by many.

Gerry is survived by his step-son Philip Marcus, step-daughters, Lesa (Ken) Hurford of Clive, AB, Valerie (Jerry) Leopold of Didsbury, AB; step grand-daughters Vanessa and Julie Leopold of the USA; numerous step great-grandchildren; sister Dorothy Johnson (Walter-predeceased) of Campbell River, BC; brother Joe (Paula) Thompson of Chilliwack, BC; and many nieces and nephews. Gerry was predeceased by his wife Susan Mary Thompson, step-grandson Mackie VanDongen, parents, Marguerite and Herbert Thompson; brothers, Edward and H. Reginald Thompson; brother-in-law Walter Johnson and best friend Harvey Williams.
