Obituary of Emily  Aapo’yaki - Fair Looking Woman THREE SUNS

July 10, 1940 – Blackfoot, Alberta
November 7, 2020 – Siksika Nation, Alberta

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Emily (Aapo’yaki) Red Crow (nee Three Suns) who went home to the Creator on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the age of 80 years.  

She is survived by her loving husband Clarence Red Crow SR and her children, Aa kai nih Kia’Ki, Siipis’sto ki na (Jayme), Mista’k (Rita), Mi’ik skim, I tsi yaa nikapi (Carolla), Aa pii ka ya’ki (Dion), Saoka’sim, Aa kaisko na ka ta (Lori), Barbara, Noreen, Franklyn (Annette), Marie, Ernestine, Patsy (Ken); and her sister-in-law Myrtle Good Eagle; her special friends Joan and Betty Poor Eagle and Floyd Running Rabbit. She will also be lovingly remembered by her adopted children, Spike and Alvina Eagle Speaker, Jason Spotted Eagle, Calvert Yellow Old Woman, Earl Laforte, Eugene Black Water, Lillian Crow Chief, Lyle Poor Eagle, Karen Gallegos, Emily Gallegos, Trisha Cutter, Delbert and Jackie Yellow Fly, Ike Solway, Olin Young Pine and MJ Macllum, Shirley Spring Chief, Shirley Yellow Fly, Charlene Doore, Joe Many Bears; and twenty-three grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. 

Emily was predeceased by her parents, Maxim and Mary Three Suns; auntie Margaret Bad Boy, six brothers, Maxim Three Suns in 1979, Mike Three Suns in 1988, Windsor Three Suns, Dick June Three Suns, Pius Three Suns in 2001 and George Good Eagle in1995, daughter-in-law Sheila Running Rabbit; son-in-law Classy Backfat; her four sisters, Margaret Rose, Victoria, Alice Three Suns in1967 and Julia Wright in 2007; her beloved son Eddy, Calvin Red Crow, daughters Flora Red Crow and Nancy Three Suns, adopted son Karl Doore; and her grandchild, Richard Dalton Crow Child. The Three Suns Clan included the Big Snakes, Many Bears, Poor Eagles, Crow Chiefs, Scalplocks, Running Rabbit, Stimsons and Good Eagle. 

Emily was born and raised at Siksika on a foundation of the Blackfoot culture/traditions and strong catholic faith. She took an integral role in teaching the Blackfoot culture in the Siksika schools and also served as an elder advisor on different committees on the nation. Emily took an active role in the Catholic Church and the Cursillo movement. Her dedication to her faith included her yearly trips to Lac Saint Ann and the yearly walk on Good Friday. Utilizing her Blackfoot knowledge alongside her Catholic faith; she worked at the Awotaan Womens Shelter in Calgary with the clients as she took the role of mentoring the families. She will be remembered as a humble and well-respected individual in her community and for those who were fortunate to meet her. She had a compassionate and loving personality with a touch of humour.  Her humbleness stem from a foundation of strong Blackfoot culture and traditions. Emily attended Crowfoot Residential School. She took part in the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede; in her younger years as a parade participant and won best dressed. Later years she participated in the Indian village alongside her nephews. Emily was the last surviving matriarchy from the Three Suns family in her generation; her role as a mother and caregiver is evident in the lives of those she touched. The legacy she leaves behind are the family and friends she mentored and the Three Suns Ranch, that has spanned four generations. 

Wake Services will be held at the Three Suns Ranch (Siksika Nation, AB) on Monday, November 16, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Siksika Nation, AB) on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Crowfoot Cemetery (Siksika Nation, AB).  Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Emily’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
