Colin BEATTIE

Obituary of Colin Wilson BEATTIE

August 22, 1945 – Grantham, England

November 11, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce that on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, Colin Beattie, beloved husband of Dianne Beattie (nee Roth) and a wonderful father to Sean, Clint, and Michael, passed away at the age of 75 years.

Colin was born in Grantham, England, on August 22, 1945, to Allan and Lucy Beattie. The family emigrated to Canada months later and settled in Berwyn, Alberta in the Peace River region. Years later, they moved to Calgary, Alberta where Colin would raise his own family. He worked in the banking industry at RBC for many years before transitioning to production accounting in the oil and gas sector, until his retirement.

He married Dianne Roth on November 6, 1971, and they enjoyed many years of happily married life. Colin was an avid supporter of his three sons hockey, school and career endeavours. He was known for his quick, dry wit and his warmth towards people that everyone enjoyed and appreciated. Colin enjoyed war history and stories of the old west in various media such as print and film. Attending the Calgary Stampede every year was something he always looked forward to. Visiting Disneyland was always one of the highlights of his life, and during his numerous visits to the park, he was always one of the first to arrive and last to leave!

He and Dianne enjoyed countless occasions with their dancing groups, their bowling league, and the many happy and supportive friendships they made along the way.

Colin is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Dianne; his three sons Sean (Sherry), Clint (Alison), and Michael; two grandchildren, Prestyn and Logan both of whom he adored. He is also survived by his sisters Vivian (Terje) Salhus, and Mavis Branston; brothers-in-law Blair (Jan) Roth, and Terry (Sheila) Roth, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents Allan and Lucy Beattie; parents-in-law Tom and Clementine Roth; his brother-in-law Bruce Branston, and sister-in-law Arlene Roth.

We would like to thank the doctors and nurses from Alberta Health Services and the staff at Agape Hospice who helped Colin during his courageous battle with cancer. Thank you to the many family and friends who offered their support and good wishes during this very difficult time.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a Celebration of Colin’s life will be held at a later time.
