Domenico NOCERA

Obituary of Domenico NOCERA

March 5, 1934 – Pietrapennata (Palizzi), Italy
November 25, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Domenico Nocera on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at the age of 86 years.

Domenico was born in Pietrapennata (Palizzi), Italia and immigrated to Canada in 1954. He married the love of his life Maria Lena Nocera on November 28, 1959. In October of 1960, Domenico and Maria started their family and had four children, Antonino, Francesco, Joe, and Paolina.

Domenico proudly worked at the City of Calgary until his retirement. He will always be remembered for his great stories, big heart, stylish attire and big smile. Domenico was a great husband, father, Nonno, brother, and friend. Family was the most important thing in his life and he cherished every second he got to spend talking or visiting with them. We cannot forget his love for horse racing and the joy it brought him.

Domenico, although small in stature, was one of the most resilient men we knew. He survived a move to an unknown country at a young age, open heart surgery, three strokes and constant pain for the majority of his old age. Learning from him about hard work, respect of others and willingness to battle through adversity was invaluable lessons.

Domenico will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know him.

Domenico was predeceased by his beloved wife Maria. He is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, Antonino and Ana Nocera, Francesco and Karen Nocera, Joe and Christina Nocera; daughter Paolina Nocera, six grandchildren, Domenico (Savannah) Nocera, Robert (Carley) Nocera, Emma Greco, Anika Nocera, Zackery Nocera, Tyler Nocera; two great-grandsons, Antonino Nocera and Marcello Nocera; sister Paolina Barbaro, brother and sister-in-law, Gigino and Jacqueline Flaviano; sister-in-law Francesca Porcu, sister-in-law Rosa Flaviano as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close family friends.

We are forever grateful and will always keep you in our hearts. We are happy you do not have to suffer anymore and can be with the love of your life in Heaven.

Until we meet again….
