Obituary of Mavis Joan BAKER (nee Appleton)

November 4, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Our wonderful mother and friend, Mavis Joan Baker of Calgary, Alberta passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at the age of 92 years.

Born in Sylvan Lake on May 22, 1928 she moved to Edmonton where she met her husband, Hugh Alexander Baker. They later moved to Calgary, where Mavis received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1974.  After the passing of Hugh, she travelled extensively and met Seibold Machielse., with whom she shared many adventures.

A free spirit who was loved by many, she is predeceased by Hugh and Siebold, and her sisters Audrey and Betty. She will be greatly missed by her brother Peter (Faye) and her children, Ian (Linda), Derek (Camille), Joanne Lotzer (Phil) and Hugh. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Hugh Baker and Tanya Momtazian (Orang), Leanne and Shawna Lotzer, and Rebecca (Ancil) Williams.  She also leaves great- grandchildren, Shayan and Keeja Momtazian and Mya and Lily Williams.

Mavis also leaves behind an impressive art portfolio which will be treasured by her loved ones.

The family would like to thank the staff of Mount Royal Care Centre who cared so well for Mavis over the last years of her life, and especially during the COVID restrictions.
