Obituary of M.A. (Dutch) RYBA

November 9, 1933 – November 27, 2020

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dutch Ryba on November 27, 2020.

Dutch was born on November 9, 1933 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where he resided until he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1955. His first posting was in Calgary where he met his wife, Jean. The two married in 1958 and Dutch was posted to Red Deer, City Detail. In 1962 he was transferred to Edmonton, General Investigation Section. This posting led to him working on the Drug Squad which ended up being his career for the remainder of his R.C.M.P. days.  In 1973 Dutch and his family were transferred to Calgary where he was Staff Sargent in charge of the Drug Squad. After serving in the force for twenty-five years, he retired in 1980. After his retirement he went on to a second career with Mancal Ltd., one of the Mannix Companies where he organized their corporate and personal security.  After fifteen years Dutch retired for a second time to enjoy his many interests.

Dutch and Jean joined the Inglewood Golf Club in 1979 where they continue to be members. Their social life soon revolved around an afternoon of golf, dinner with friends and an evening of bridge. They met many of their life-long friends while playing golf at Inglewood.   Following the golf season, Dutch and Jean made some nice trips to various locations around the globe. Dutch loved the game of bridge and played until his passing. Skiing was another of his hobbies which he was passionate about. Dutch had a wide circle of friends and maintained friendships with other retired R.C.M.P. and City Police Officers, fellow golf buddies and bridge friends.

Dutch was a soft spoken, gentle kind man who was very easy going and had a quirky sense of humor. There was nothing he appreciated more than spending time with his family. His greatest joy was the Christmas trips to Mexico with Jean and their daughters, their husbands and grandchildren. Dutch was at his best in the company of his grandchildren. He had a special friendship with each of them and was blessed to see a great-grandchild arrive.

Dutch lived a full and happy life with no regrets.

Dutch is survived by his wife Jean, his daughters Terri Mair (Russ) and Sandra Boyechko (Lorne) and grandchildren, Christine (Luke), Blake, Laura (Cam), Stuart (Nat) and Ashleigh (Tyler) and great-grandson, Jake.

Dutch passed as a result of a complication from Parkinson’s Disease. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Parkinson Association of Alberta, at their Head Office, 120, 6835 Railway Street S.E., Calgary, AB. T2H 2V6 or by telephone 403.243.9901 or on-line at parkinsonassociation.ca

The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors on Units 74 and 71 of the Rockyview Hospital for the care and kindness they showed to Dutch.

A Celebration of Dutch’s Life will take place at a later date when it is safer to travel and come together. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed of Dutch’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

In living memory of Dutch Ryba, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes.
