Obituary of Dr. Richard (Rich) Dennis ODLAND

April 24, 1939 – Winnipeg, Manitoba
November 24, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Dr. Rich Odland of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at the age of 81 years.

Rich was born on April 24, 1939 in Winnipeg, MB, to Otto and Helen Odland. It was at Central High School (CCI) where he met his beautiful bride, Lynn Baines, but he waited until after graduating from dental school at the University of Alberta to get married. Rich practiced dentistry in Calgary from 1964 to 1988, where he made lifelong relationships with patients and colleagues alike. He had a heart for service, and spent countless moments helping others. Rich volunteered with the MS Bike Tour for many years and was a driver for the cancer society. He was a leader in many of his organizations. He was past president of the Calgary Dental Society and was Past Master of Lodge Renfrew, was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite, member of the Royal Order of Scotland and the Al Azhar Shriners.

Rich and Lynn liked traveling together, as well as spending time with family and friends, and could often be found enjoying the warmth of Palm Springs in February. A particularly memorable trip was to Maui in May of 2014, where the whole family celebrated his fiftieth wedding anniversary. Rich certainly loved the outdoors, and his favorite moments occurred on a golf course, or hiking or skiing in the mountains. Always in good spirits, his smile and quiet strength will be dearly missed.

Rich is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-six years Lynn, his son Mike (Patti) and granddaughter Addison; his daughter Maureen (Paul) Dunn and grandchildren, Natalie and Cameron; as well as many nieces and nephews. Rich was predeceased by his parents, Otto and Helen (Emery); his half-brother Glen (Lillian), and step-mother Jean.

A Private Family Service will be held. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Rich’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
