Obituary of Erik Johannes PETERSEN

August 26, 1935 – Svendborg, Denmark

November 28, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Erik Petersen, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2020, at the age of 85 years.

Erik was born in Svendborg, Denmark on August 26, 1935. He joined the Danish military at the age of eighteen and served his country proudly for three years. He was a favourite uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.  He became a talented cabinet maker and crafted fine pieces of furniture for the next fifty-one years.  His fine woodwork and craftsmanship were recognized by the Danish Queen herself.   He married Anne Knudsen in 1970 and they had two children together. They immigrated to Canada in 1975 seeking better opportunities for their young family.

Erik accomplished much throughout his life and was always particularly proud of his family.   Erik loved building with his hands and sharing his talents with his family.  He loved to travel and visit new places.  Erik had a thirst for history and loved to share his knowledge.

Erik was lovingly known as "Morfar" to his two oldest grandchildren and “Farfar” to his two youngest grandchildren.  He filled their young lives with joy and laughter.  He was everything a doting grandfather should be.  He never forgot a holiday or a birthday (and he even invented some).  His deep, booming laughter was a favourite and will be profoundly missed.  He made every day special.  He loved them unconditionally.

Erik's memories and love of life survive through his daughter Tina of Calgary, AB and son and daughter-in-law, Mikael and Janelle of Dewinton, AB.  He was also a proud grandfather “Morfar/Farfar”, to Marina, Magnus, Thomas and Nicholas. Erik is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Erik was predeceased by his parents, his sister, and two brothers.
