Obituary of Marita RUSAK (nee Schuler)

December 12, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Marita Rusak, age 89, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2020, in Calgary. Marita was predeceased by her beloved husband Joe in March of 2020 whom she missed terribly.

Marita was born Mary Rita Schuler on December 8, 1931 in Montreal to Ann Mullin and Otto Schuler. She was raised in Montreal with her sister Dorothy (deceased 2000). Marita moved to Mississauga, Ontario in 1964 with her young family and first husband Peter Hossack.

After raising her three children, Marita was proud of her career as Executive Secretary for KPMG through the 1980s and 90s. However, her passion was to always be in touch and involved in every way with her children’s education, interests and sports pursuits.

In 1979 Marita was remarried to Joseph Rusak. For over thirty years Joe and Marita spent countless days and evenings on ball diamonds, soccer pitches and in ice rinks, following the sports exploits of their beloved two grandchildren in Mississauga and four grandchildren in Calgary, where they moved to in 1997. Marita’s greatest pleasure was as “Gramie” or “Grandma” to her grandchildren, who she considered her closest friends and for whom she was their greatest fan.

Marita is survived by her three children and their families: sons Peter (Glenda) and Bob (Lesley), and daughter MaryLou (Dave); step-sons and daughters-in-law, Paul (Nancy), David (Louise), and Don (Suzy); nine grandchildren, Michael, Steven, Brandon, Alex, Julia, Brett, Jeffery, Alison, Taylor; and two great-grandchildren, Logan and McKinley.

Owing to Covid-19, the families of Marita and Joe plan to have a Celebration of Life for the two of them, later in 2021. A Mass will be said in honour of both of them at St. Luke’s Parish.
