Obituary of Alice Jeanette WYLIE nee Lilley

March 28, 1922 – Shell Valley, Manitoba
December 15, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Alice Wylie, beloved wife of the late William Wylie, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at the age of 98 years.

Alice was born in the home farm house just outside Boggy Creek, Manitoba on March 28, 1922, the fifth of nine children born to Mary (Brazeau) and Frank Lilley. Alice attended the Clemenceau School, which was established in 1919 about five kilometers north of San Clara.

In 1938 Alice moved to Winnipeg to take a job in a cafe and in 1940, when the war started, Alice and four girlfriends took the train to Toronto to find work. Alice worked in a café there and the following year she moved to Woodstock, where her sister Agnes lived with husband Frank Schurman and daughters, Ila and Lorraine. Alice found a job in a factory that made rifles and later in a factory that made socks and underwear. Alice met Frank's friend William Wylie, an army Sergeant training troops in Woodstock, at a Valentine’s Day dance and they were married October 2, 1943. At the end of the war in 1945, Alice and Bill moved to Calgary where they settled and raised two children.

Alice was proud of her Metis heritage. She belonged to the Metis Association of Alberta Region 3 and volunteered for many years raising funds to support education expenses for Metis children. Alice’s family and relatives were most important in her life and they spent many weekends and holidays together. Alice and Bill always had room in their house where relatives could stay.

Alice will be remembered by her son Bill, her grandchildren, Shona, Sherri, Rob, Richard, Jennifer, and Todd; her great-grandchildren, Julie, Jayson,  Elijah, and Mariella; her great-great-grandchild Aubree, and all her nieces and nephews. Alice was predeceased by her loving husband Bill, her sisters and brothers, Alvina (Cornelius) Heibert, Agnes (Frank) Schurman, Lillian (George) Goetz, David, Gordon, Frank, George, and Evelyn; her daughter Reneta Lyshorika, and great-grandson Christopher Aucoin.
