Obituary of Maria Antonia PIRO

December 1, 1928 – Pietrafitta, Cosenza, Italy
December 16, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

With gratitude and thankfulness for a life well lived, and also profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Maria Piro, on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at the age of 92 years.

Maria was born in Pietrafitta, Cosenza, Italy, the third of five children to Giovanni and Vincenza Martino. Maria had a strong Catholic faith, praying daily and participating in daily mass. She had a passion for sewing and crocheting, but most of all she enjoyed having dinner parties and hosting her family. Maria will be deeply missed by her family and the place she held in their hearts and lives can not be replaced.

Maria leaves behind her daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa and Raymond Blackie, and Gianna and Salvatore Tedesco; and grandchildren, Joshua and Sarah Tedesco. Maria was predeceased by her loving husband Alfredo, after forty-six years of happy marriage.  She was also predeceased by her siblings, Rocco, Giuseppina, Assunta of Italy, and Antonio of France.

A Family Funeral Mass will be held at St. Albert the Great Parish and a Graveside Service will follow at Queens Park Mausoleum.
