Obituary of Kuot Mawien KUOT

January 1, 1955 – Wau, South Sudan

December 5, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Kuot Kuot, beloved husband of Asunta Wol, of Calgary, AB, has passed from this life into the eternal on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at the age of 65 years.

 

Kuot was born in Wau, South Sudan on January 1, 1955, son of Mawien Kuot and Agol Akol. Kuot grew up in South Sudan with his older half brothers and sisters, he took an early liking of playing soccer and academics and his favourite subject was mathematics. Kuot and Asunta married in 1980, when she was nineteen years old and he was twenty-six, they have four children together.

 

Kuot graduated from the University of Khartoum, with two Degrees in Bachelor of Science in Economics and Social Studies, and Business Administration, in 1978. He also obtained his Post Graduate Diploma in Regional Development and Planning. In 1993, he enrolled in The American University in Cairo, for his Master’s Degree in Public Administration, MPA. He took his Ph.D. in Fairfax University (US) in Public Administration and Development Planning.

 

Kuot was passionate about politics and helping people in Sudan, and South Sudan. He joined the Ministry of Finance in Juba in 1978, and worked his way up to Director of Finance. In 1991-93, he worked at The Sacred Heart Church in Cairo, Egypt as a Consultant on Refugees and Displaced Communities. Kuot also worked with non-profit organizations, such as, the United Nation High Commissioner (UNHR) for Refugees in Rafha, Saudi Arabia as resettlement Clerk; Save The Children Fund in (UK) and Nairobi in 1995 as a Project Officer; and at the Joint Voluntary Agency in Nairobi, Kenya and interpreter for United Nation Development Program (UNDP) in Nairobi, Kenya as a Consultant on Strategic Socio-Economic Development. Kuot was involved in the development of BYDA –Ber El Ghazal Youth Development Agency in 1997. Also he was the Chair of the Apuk Community in The United States, and Warrap State in South Sudan.

 

In 2010, he was appointed as Minister of Roads and Bridges in Warrap, South Sudan, and in 2011, as Minister of Agriculture in Warrap State. In 2016, Kuot was appointed Committee Chair for The National Dialog Initiative in South Sudan.

 

Since he was a student, Kuot was involved in politics. In 1983, he joined the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement SPLM and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army SPLA and contributed to the movement profoundly.

Besides his loving wife Asunta Wol, Kuot is survived by his six children, Mawien Kuot, Julia Angong Kuot, Nancy Akon Kuot, Deng Kuot, Veronica Awut Kuot and Athian Kuot. Kuot was predeceased by his parents, Mawien Kuot and Agol Akol.
