Condolences
I shared experiences at St. Joseph's College in 1966 and 1967 with Barry and several others from Canmore.
Over the years friends of mine from Calgary, who knew Barry spoke positively of him.
I know he was welcomed in heaven and is now at peace and wishing the same for his family.
Positive memories of the past

Our sincere condolences for the Giovanetto family. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
Dear Penny, we were so sad to hear of Barry's passing. We have so many wonderful memories of our times together at the Oilmen's and other events. Barry's humour and joy for life were radiant. We will always remember his wonderful personality and unique style. We find it impossible to think of Barry without visualizing his welcoming smile, his hearty laugh, a jaunty neck kerchief and understated socks.
Please know that our thoughts are with you and your family.
Barry and Fay Hodson
Our sincere condolences to Penny and the family for their great loss. We have fond memories of his exuberant presence at St. Luke’s, augmenting the choir with his rich tones and his ever present positive spirit.

On behalf of the Sandrelli family, Our condolences to the Giovanetto family during this time. Barry was good friends of my grandparents, Mary and Dwain Sandrelli. He will truly be missed.

I have known of Barry most of my life. Barry was four years older than me which, when you are a kid, is a lifetime. However, Canmore was a small town and our lives crossed paths in different ways so many times that we became friends. Whenever I saw him I would seek him out to say hello. I recently read a quote by George Saunders - he said "What I regret most in my life are failures of kindness." I don't think Barry would have this regret. He was magic around people. Penny, my wife Angela (a Canmore gal) and I wish you and your family our deepest condolences at his passing. . . Paul and Angela Flynn
Hiking in Canmore with you all was formative for me. Those memories live on in my bones and heart.
Love,
Christi-an
Gail and I were deeply saddened to read of Barry's recent passing Penny and wish to express our sympathies to you and your family. We will certainly remember Barry's gregarious, outgoing personality but more importantly, his sincerity and friendship. He was a pleasure to be around. God bless. Hector and Gail McFadyen
My son Colin and I are deeply saddened to learn of Barry’s recent passing and offer our deepest condolences to the Giovenetto family. I’ve had many positive experiences with Barry over the years including business, some golf, Oilman’s and many conversations either in the Glencoe pubs or fitness centre. My last experience was at the Glencoe driving range last summer where Barry was with several of his Grandchildren. As he introduced me they were all required to shake my hand and were very well behaved for Grandpa. I was so impressed with the experience that I told my wife about it when I got home. He was a wonderful man and will be missed by many.

Oh Penny, our deepest sympathies; when Deb and I start to think of Barry it's immediately like an avalanche of memories, wonderful memories and we're just friends who didn't meet until the early 90's so for you and your family and long time friends, well we can hardly imagine. Whether it was ten years of golf trips or twenty years of Oilmen's functions or just lunches or dinners together Barry's (and your) great humour and positivity made every occasion an occasion. A measure of a man can be in his legacy and his Penny, his family and his friends are a true testament to his wonderful legacy.
Love, the MacLeod's
Dear Penny,
I am sending my heartfelt condolences to you and your family learning of the passing of your Barry. The description of Barry's personality in his memorial and through his friends tributes is how I remember him. Both you and Barry were always joyful, smiling and welcoming.
You made a lovely team. Regards, Andrea McArthur
Barry was the coolest. I remember as a kid going to St Luke's church and he would show up with his family, blasting Metallica in his van and wearing purple Doc Martins. Then he would go and take his place at the front of the church and sing louder than anyone!

Our thoughts & prayers are with you & your family, Penny. Was so shocked to read of Barry’s passing. So glad we were able to reconnect this past summer & share some memories of times when we lived on Dalcastle Rise.
Penny, I was shocked and saddened to hear of Barry’s passing. Sincere condolences and prayers to you and your family. I have many fond memories from the UofA years. (I tried to lead him astray many times but his common sense always prevailed).
He truly was a great guy.

I was shocked and saddened to read of Barry’s passing in the paper. We grew up together in Canmore. I have fond memories of going skiing with Barry up at the “L”, although he could get into difficulty just about quicker than anybody. I remember giving him a lift one time when I found him struggling home with one broken ski. He thought it was hilarious of course! And I won’t even talk about the time he turned himself into a giant scab when he tumbled down a scree slope beneath politically-incorrect Peak. He had a zest for life even when it got him into trouble!
After school, our paths crossed infrequently, although each time was a pleasure. His was a friendship that didn’t need constant refreshing, but had a rather timeless quality to it.
Laterally, Penny told us of his battle with Parkinson’s, which is why I was so delighted to see how well Barry seemed to be doing a year and a half ago at the Miner’s Day parade in Canmore. At one stage the NWMP band struck up “The Maple Leaf Forever” and suddenly Barry started belting out the words in that booming baritone voice. At the end, he turned to me with a big grin and said “What Mrs. Appleby has you memorize, stays memorized!”
He was a genuine character with a heart of gold. I shall miss him dearly.
Our sincere love and thoughts go out to Penny and the family at this difficult time.

Penny, We are so sorry for your loss and our thoughts, prayers and positive energy are with you and your family at this very difficult time. Danny knew Barry through the Italian connection and I knew Barry as we sat on the PClub board together. Barry was a breath of fresh air, lots of fun and a great person. We will all miss him. I had the pleasure of living in St. Joseph's College at U of A and meeting Barry. He was a good friend to all and he lit up every place where he was. Sadly, I lost touch with Barry after graduation, but have often thought about him. He will be missed by all who ever knew him. He was one of a kind.
