Obituary of Warren CONNELL

May 20, 1963 – December 21, 2020 

It is with much love and deep sadness that the family of Warren Connell announces his passing on Monday, December 21, 2020 at the age of 57 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. 

Warren was an iconic leader in the Calgary community and was broadly recognized for his role as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Calgary Stampede. Warren joined the Stampede in 1984, quickly taking on increasing responsibilities, becoming CEO in 2015. 

During his time as CEO, Warren worked tirelessly towards the vision of creating a world-class, year-round gathering place for the community. This included setting the direction for the final fulfillment of the Stampede’s 20-year Master Plan, a bold and unprecedented accomplishment. Warren was beloved by the Stampede family, and he will be remembered as a visionary leader and ardent community builder. His recognition of the community will be a legacy that lives on for generations to come.

Warren was born in Edmonton, AB to a military family and lived in many places before settling in Calgary. Throughout his life, he was devoted to his work and loved what he did. He also enjoyed taking family vacations at Crystal Lake, SK, and visiting with his extended family members who live in that area. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church and a volunteer with Inn from the Cold.

Warren is survived by his wife Adine, four children, Brittney (21), Sierra (20), Reagan (13) and Colton (10); grandchildren, Riley and Thomas; mother Donna Connell (Peter), brothers, Kevin (Sylvia) and Darrin (Abby); four nephews, and many extended family members. Warren was predeceased by his father Leonard Connell in 1991.

Warren will forever be remembered and adored by his loving family and his community. Rest in peace, our beloved mentor, leader, and friend. 

A private family service will be held, and a Celebration of Warren’s Life will be arranged when it is safe to gather again.
