Condolences
Katharine and I were in a dinner club with Jim & Jackie for over 15 years in Calgary, so I knew Jim personally rather than professionally. His sense of humour and smile were infectious and he was a great conversationalist, interested in everything and everyone. He will be sadly missed. Hugh McIntosh, Barrie, ON
I have known Jim for many years both as a student and colleague.
I first met Jim when I was a student at U of C, enrolled in his night class in the Faculty of Education. A short time later, Jim interviewed me for a teaching position at SWC and it was then that my professor became my mentor, colleague and principal - what great fortune had befallen on me - I felt I had won the lottery and career-wise I had.
In many different ways Jim was, supportive to all. When a situation arose that presented a challenge Jim was there offering help with sound suggestions. He was a leader. I want to take this moment Jim, to appreciate your kindness, your wisdom, your thoughtfulness and leadership.
My condolence to the McLellan family – may his memory be a blessing - for Jim will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

I had the privilege of curling with Jim when he joined my father's (Ben Bieche) team on Saturday mornings at the Calgary Winter Club. I curled on Saturday mornings to be with my dad, I was always aware of the incredible people in my dad's life but I didn't spend much time time getting to know them.
I really didn't know Jim prior but within a few games I began to understand just how special he was.
Jim had an uncanny of way making everyone around him smile and laugh.
When my dad was no longer able to curl, Jim insisted that the team would continue, I couldn't say no.
He struggled through with his own issues and injuries but he showed up every Saturday to curl.
We didn't win as many games as we'd like to, but the post games coffee were always the highlight.
Jim enjoyed curling, but his passion was leaving the club to go watch his grandchildren play basketball.
He was always so proud to tell us he was off to watch his grandkids.
In recent years, despite his own health issues he went above and beyond to be a friend to my parents.
Jim was beyond a good person he was special.
Jim was a good likable person. Dale remembers he and Jim in school together in Lethbridge and playing sports together.

In my 40 year teaching career, I worked with many fine principals, but Jim McLellan was the best. He was a wise and astute leader and a compassionate and judicious mentor for all his staff. He knew well our strengths and our weaknesses; he was effusive in his praise and compassionate in his discipline. Best of all, he had a wonderful sense of humour and a great sense of fun! It was a privilege to know him.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Jackie and your family at this difficult time. I remember when Jim was our Home Teacher for my daughter Elaina and my grandson Destin in the Tuscany Ward. He came each month with his companion and he always had a happy countenance and a brief message. Jim's diligence and genuine interest in our family made a difference to us and we will always be grateful for the time and effort he spent on our behalf. Helen Pitcher
Dear Jacquie and family,
It was with sadness that we learned of Jim's death. I have many fond memories of Jim, and he was very helpful to me when I was a student, writing letters of reference and always being a supportive and friendly presence in my life. I enjoyed hearing the tributes and seeing the photos in this service.
Sending our love and wishes,
Grant, Marla, and Jessie Paterson
My sincere condolences to Jim's family. Jim and I started our teaching careers in 1961 with the Calgary Board of Education. Jim at Parkdale and I at Langevin. As coaches we were both friendly and competitive rivals with our respective school sports teams.
Rest in peace Jim,
-Jack Serna
Jim was such a gentleman, wise and funny. He and I would keep track of the scoreboard at Madison and Emily’s games in case there were mistakes. I always thoroughly enjoyed our visits. He had a great sense of humour and a gifted story teller.
My sympathy to all of the family

Hello Jackie,
I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. From high school to now, Jim and I have shared many experiences, most of which revolved around humour, sports, or education. The first years at University were a great growth experience for both of us as student council grew and so did we.
I hope you and your family are well, will continue to be well and appreciate the time spent with Jim, I know I will.

Barb and I send our prayers and condolences to Jackie and the McLellan family on Jim's passing.
The obituary in the Calgary Herald summarized so well the Jim I knew ... a people person, a sport's enthusiast and committed educator. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. May his memory be comforting to all who knew Jim and to his family members.
